Facebook warns if someone else access your account
Posted by TechGeek on August 23, 2011
Facebook can notify you when your account is accessed from a computer or mobile device that you haven’t used before. This means someone else has access to your account and he/she tries to login into your account from unknown location. Is someone has your credentials and monitoring your profile without your knowledge?
Facebook supports email based notifications when they found suspicious, or unknown or probably new device only if you have enabled it from your account settings. To enable this feature read out our earlier blog. Facebook store most recent activities in the format of date and time, location of the IP address and device type such as browser or mobile etc. Once it identifies that someone is accessing your account from different computer, location or country, Facebook shows immediate warning message on your profile if you are logged in at the same time as shown in the image,
The message is shown under Notifications with message saying “An unrecognized device recently attempted to access your account, let us know if it was you”. Facebook will then temporarily lock your account and displays message saying “Review Recent Login”.
In order to regain access to your account, you need to follow certain steps. Facebook will then display a confirmation page with world map showing location of the device along with details like city, state, country, time and browser or device. If you have accessed your account from a new place, you can then add this place to your recognized devices by clicking on “This is okay” button. Facebook will add this location or device information under your profile so that next time it can identify your new location.
Must Read: See your recent account activity
If you see different device like smart phones or different city or country in a map and you are sure that you have not used such device or you have not visited such city or country, you can then immediately click on “I don’t recognize” button. Facebook will then take you to a new page where you can create your new password.
This is really good security measure provided by Facebook and you should enable it from your account.
